A Look at 100 Years of Dodge

In 2014, Dodge will have been in existence for 100 years. It's hard to believe that the brand that we know and love has been around for a century. But it has, and now we can celebrate all of the automaker's accomplishments since its inception.

Dodge was originally founded by the Dodge brothers, Horace and John, in 1914 after spending years working for a number of other automakers in Detroit. Their job was to produce precise, high performance engines for Ford and Olds Motor Vehicle Company, but after a while, they decided they wanted to build their own cars.

Enter the Dodge Model 30. Built in 1914, the car sold over 45,000 units in its first model year, a record at the time. It was also the first vehicle ever to sport an all-steel chassis. Such began the automaker's long road of firsts.

As the years wore on, Dodge began pushing to make their cars more performance oriented as well as stylish. This led to early iterations of the Charger and Challenger muscle cars in the 60s and 70s. Today, they are two of the most popular cars in the new Dodge brand lineup.

Speaking of these two cars, the automaker has announced it will be putting out a special edition version of each to commemorate their centennial.
